Global Joint FCPF – UN-REDD Programme REDD+ Knowledge Exchange Day : Session 7: Social inclusion and REDD+ -- November 2015

Social inclusiveness in REDD+ policy is deemed crucial to ensure both the effectiveness of REDD+ action and the compliance of REDD+ with the sustainable development goals. This session explores how to enable and advance social inclusion in REDD+ policy work, focusing on two major fronts: (i) gender mainstreaming, and (ii) the realization of the rights and development priorities of indigenous peoples and local communities. 

Countries and non-governmental stakeholders share:
• Experiences in integrating gender considerations into REDD+ policy work, both from the grassroots and through national processes.
• Participatory dialogues and partnerships to inform REDD+ policy, aligning it with social inclusion principles.
• Establishing mechanisms for social inclusion, such as FPIC protocols and participatory governance arrangements.
