(52)Enhanced knowledge on forest monitoring and on UNFCCC requirements for REDD+ was a key outcome of the 1st Regional Workshop on National Forest Monitoring Systems for REDD+ in Latin America, which involved 63 participants from 11 countries in Ecuador.
The event covered satellite monitoring, forest inventories and forest management indicators. Its conclusions will inform and guide FAO’s and UN-REDD activities in the region. Read the summary online here or the detailed sessions and presentations below.

(34)This workshop is part of a series of regional events around the world, organized by UN-REDD and led by FAO, and is also part of a series of ‘lessons learned’ workshops for Asia-Pacific participants, organized by regional UN-REDD agencies and international partners, including the SilvaCarbon USAID LEAF programs. It builds upon the 4th workshop by focusing on the monitoring functions of the NFMS, and the development of RELs and RLs.

UN-REDD/LECB Workshop for Sharing National Experiences, Zambia 25-27 February 2014
(75)Two global support programmes – the UN-REDD Programme and the UNDP Low Emission Capacity-Building (LECB) Programme jointly hosted parallel capacity building workshops providing space for sharing experiences on development of NFMS for REDD+ and national GHG inventory systems. Though each programme’s workshop had distinct objectives and scopes, the issues were closely linked and contained parallel sessions, with opportunities for joint sessions and engagement between participants.
