Indonesia has embarked on comprehensive reforms to land-use policies, customary land rights, regulations and law enforcement to meet its pledge made in Paris in 2015 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29% from Business As Usual level by 2030 and by 41% with international support. Between 2010 and 2012, Indonesia has been working to create enabling conditions for REDD+ implementation.
Integrated Analyses for a REDD+ Strategy in Nigeria with Focus on Cross River State: Report on Private Sector Engagement Status in REDD+ and Recommendations
Nigeria's forests, which currently extend over 9.6 million hectares, have been rapidly declining over the past decades. The current deforestation rate, estimated at 3.7%, is one of the highest in the world. The REDD+ Strategy for Nigeria intends to enhance the value of standing forests and to incentivize sustainable forest management through a multi-stakeholder approach and a green development perspective.
Biodiversity in Côte d’Ivoire is among the richest in Western Africa. The country’s total forest area was estimated at over seven million hectares in 2000 but has fallen sharply due to high rates of deforestation and forest degradation suffered in its recent history.
Several policies have been put in place to curb this trend and restore the country’s ecological capital as it makes the transition to a more sustainable model of development.
Côte d'Ivoire became a UN-REDD Programme partner country in June 2011 and has developed a REDD+ Readiness Plan following a participatory approach.
Nigeria has developed a Framework National REDD+ Strategy and a Cross Riverstate sub-national Strategy and is now poised for implementation of REDD+.
Published by the International Centre for International Mountain Development (ICIMOD), this manual has been prepared for facilitators working with planners and multiple stakeholders in the development of subnational plans for REDD+ action. It is based on the idea that subnational REDD+ planning is essential for operationalising a REDD+ national strategy. Using pilot subnational REDD+ action plan experiences in Vietnam and Nepal over the period 2014-2016, it is written in a prescriptive style, but the methodology is generic and can be adapted to the country context and requirements.
Integrated Land-Use Planning for REDD+: Lessons from Combining Spatial Analysis and Participatory Approaches at the Sub-National Level in Viet Nam
A National REDD+ Strategy or Action Plan is required for a country to be able to receive results-based payments under the UNFCCC. This strategy should set out the actions, often referred to as “policies and measures” (PAMs), and governance arrangements to ensure the achievement of a country’s REDD+ objectives.
