Watch a new UNDP UN-REDD Programme video on Peru´s Targeted Support project that was produced for this week's PB11 meeting in Geneva. Beginning in July 2012, this 18 month project, "Capacity Strengthening of Indigenous Peoples for their Informed Participation in the Design and Implementation of a REDD+ Mechanism in Peru", focused on strengthening the informed participation of indigenous peoples and other civil society groups in REDD+ readiness, specifically in supporting the design of participatory mechanisms and instruments to guarantee equitable involvement during REDD+ implementation in Peru.
Forest Peoples Programme's April E-Newsletter reviews experiences of communities and civil society with safeguard policies of various international financial institutions. The E-Newsletter contains articles on indigenous peoples’ experiences with safeguards in Asia, Peru and Central Africa, emphasising the importance of robust safeguard frameworks to ensure that development finance does no harm to people and the environment. It also features articles on safeguard issues at the UN-REDD Programme and other international institutions in forest and climate financing schemes.
Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay and Peru shared their perspectives and ideas on anti-corruption for REDD+ during the Forum held in Lima, Peru last week on "how to prevent corruption in REDD+ and help REDD+ meet its climate and development objectives". Two UN-REDD regional events will be hosted in Lima, Peru this week: A Forum on " How Enhancing Transparency and Accountability Will Help REDD+ Meet its Climate and Development Objectives" (29-31 January) and a Workshop on the UN-REDD Guidelines on Free, Prior and Informed Consent (1-2 February). The UN-REDD Programme, together with CIFOR and Grupo Faro, organized on 7 November 2012 a side event called "Preventing the Risk of Corruption in REDD+ financing" at the 15th International Anti-Corruption Conference held in Brasilia, Brazil. The video will be available online at http://15iacc.org/. UN-REDD will be participating in a workshop in Iquitos, Peru on 25-29 April, aimed at informing and strengthening the capacities of Indigenous leaders of AIDESEP and COICA on REDD, addressing the international process, the readiness process in Peru and the "Indigenous REDD" alternative. More info
