La Secretaría de Energía, Recursos Naturales, Ambiente y Minas del Gobierno de Honduras, como punto focal REDD+ ante la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas para Cambio Climático (CMNUCC), desarrolla una Estrategia Nacional REDD+ consensuada con partes interesadas nacionales. Dicha estrategia especificará las políticas, acciones y medidas que el país pretende impulsar para alcanzar sus objetivos de reducción de emisiones derivadas de la deforestación y degradación forestal.

Desde el 2013 los países de la región mesoamericana comenzaron un proceso sistemático y consensuado de evaluación de necesidades y capacidades de cooperación para el desarrollo de sus sistemas nacionales

En un reciente Webinar del Programa ONU-REDD, Chile, Ecuador, México, Perú y Honduras compartieron cómo han estructurado y gestionado procesos participativos para la construcción de sus Estrategias Nacionales y Planes de Acción REDD+.

En Tegucigalpa, Honduras tuvo lugar los días 28 y 29 de junio del 2016 el primer taller sobre degradación: Elementos para la definición, métodos y herramientas,desarrollado en el marco de la Estrategia Mesoamericana de Sustentabilidad Ambiental con la presencia de siete países de Latinoamérica y el Caribe.

El pasado 14 y 15 de junio tuvo lugar en Comayagua, Honduras el Primer Diálogo Nacional del Programa Nacional de Paisajes Productivos Sostenibles, el cual actúa como sombrilla para las acciones REDD+, con el fin de presentar ante diversos actores el enfoque del programa y recolectar insumos valiosos que permitan construir la visión de país frente a esta iniciativa.

Ya está disponible el sexto boletín REDD+ Honduras que resume los avances del primer trimestre de 2016 en la lucha contra la deforestación y degradación forestal como parte de la iniciativa liderada por MiAmbiente con el apoyo de los programas ONU-REDD y FCPF.

Honduras a través del Ministerio de Energía, Recursos Naturales, Ambiente y Minas (MiAmbiente) está trabajando en el diseño de la Estrategia Nacional REDD+ con el apoyo del Programa ONU-REDD y el FCPF, donde el PNUD actúa como socio implementador.

Como parte de este proceso está abierta la convocatoria a empresas nacionales e internacionales para apoyar la definición de políticas y medidas priorizadas siguiendo una evaluación económica, social y ambiental, hacia la construcción de una Estrategia Nacional de REDD+ para Honduras, incluyendo una propuesta integrada de financiamiento de la misma.

El Programa ONU-REDD y sus agencias FAO, PNUD y PNUMA, llevaron a cabo el primer evento de la Academia REDD+ para América Latina y el Caribe, el cual tuvo lugar en el Parque Nacional Iguazú, Argentina, del 5 al 10 de Octubre del 2015 y contó con la presencia de 45 representantes de 12 países de la región.

The UN-REDD Programme and its agencies FAO, UNDP and UNEP successfully held the first regional REDD+ Academy event for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), which took place in Argentina’s Iguazú National Park, from October 5-10, 2015, with the presence of over 45 participants from 12 countries.
