Watch a new UNDP UN-REDD Programme video on Peru´s Targeted Support project that was produced for this week's PB11 meeting in Geneva. Beginning in July 2012, this 18 month project, "Capacity Strengthening of Indigenous Peoples for their Informed Participation in the Design and Implementation of a REDD+ Mechanism in Peru", focused on strengthening the informed participation of indigenous peoples and other civil society groups in REDD+ readiness, specifically in supporting the design of participatory mechanisms and instruments to guarantee equitable involvement during REDD+ implementation in Peru.

The targeted support was requested by both indigenous peoples organizations and the government and UNDP and UN-REDD responded with a total budget of US$ 295,150 to specifically support the following four activities or components:

1.            Promotion of relevant actors participation

2.            Benefit distribution mechanisms

3.            Promotion of transparency and anti-corruption measures

4.            Social and environmental safeguards

This video demonstrates the importance of the project and its various outcomes from the perspective of different indigenous peoples organizations, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Environment, GIZ and UNDP. A more in-depth report on the results and lessons learned of the project will be released shortly.
